Equipment & Methods

Industrial X-Ray

Portable and easy to operate on 220 V AC, with 5 mA and 200/250 kV capacity. The directional & panoramic X-Ray energy penetrates up to 25 mm in steel thickness — suitable for radiographic inspection on nuclear power project weld joints, vacuum chamber weld joints, gas pipeline weld joints and hydro-power penstock pipeline weld joints. The X-Ray tube weighs 20 kg.

Obtain excellent radiographs while X-raying aluminium aerospace components, turbo engine parts, automobile engine housings, diesel engine hubs, blades and pistons having thickness up to 100 mm.

Iridium-192 Source

Gamma Ray

The Iridium-192 radioactive isotope is a remotely operated exposure device — portable and easy to work with in field radiography, with a capacity of 20 Curie in strength. Suitable for gas pipeline weld joints, oil storage tanks, pressure vessel weld joints and penstock pipeline weld joints. Designed by the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai, India.

Radiation effect: Exposure in an open field or on the shop floor requires a minimum 120 ft cordoned-off area while using the Iridium-192 source. No unauthorised personnel should enter the exposure field and there should be no occupancy in and around the area. Radiation caution tape and symbols must be displayed.

Ultrasonic Inspection on Welded Joints

The EINSTEIN-II TFT is a digital-display portable instrument operating on 12 V DC with 8 hours battery standby. It supports single & dual probe connection — suitable for field inspection on petroleum pipeline welded joints, LPG bottling plant welded joints, penstock pipeline welded joints and steel plates up to 75 mm thick. For weld-joint inspection and plate scanning, 4 MHz is the best frequency.

Components above 75 mm thick can be scanned using a 2.25 MHz single normal probe. 200 inspection memories can be saved and transferred to a computer system.

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement on Pipes

The COMPU-T ultrasonic thickness gauge operates on 6 V DC by pulse-echo and is a digital-display model. It measures material wall thickness from 1.5 mm to 100 mm — suitable for measuring the thickness of LPG bottling plant gas pipelines, petroleum pipelines, oil tanks, offshore platform plates, elbows, tubes, dish knuckle radii and casting neck areas.

Magnetic Particle Inspection on Welds

Yoke method — for welded joints

Portable and easy to operate on 220 V AC. Suitable for pipeline welded joints and hydraulic piston rods. Wet, dry and fluorescent inspection can be performed; ultraviolet ray can be included with the wet method. Thickness is not a criterion — surface defects within 1 mm depth can be detected.

Prod method — for castings

A Magnaflux-designed instrument working on 440 V AC with 1500 A capacity. Suitable for large, high-thickness butterfly valve castings, dishes, plates and forged components. Wet, dry and fluorescent inspection can be performed; thickness is not a criterion — surface defects within 5 mm depth can be detected.

Liquid / Dye Penetrant Testing on Welds

Magnaflux-brand aerosol solvent / washable penetrant is sprayed on the surface of ferrous and non-ferrous welded joints and components to reveal surface defects. Fluorescent emulsifier penetrant can also be used to reveal surface defects on welded joints using ultraviolet ray.

Zyglo — Ultraviolet Ray

Magnaflux fluorescent emulsifier penetrant in an aerosol container is sprayed on finished aerospace components, turbine blades and turbo engine parts to detect surface cracks. Post-emulsifiable penetrant with an emulsifier as penetrant remover can also be used when bulk turbine blades are inspected by the dipping method.

The Zyglo method is used specially for aerospace components, turbine blades and aluminium parts. It can detect surface cracks and display images in high definition through ultraviolet ray.
